Replacement of Sandy Brook Road over Sandy Brook

GM2 was responsible for all aspects of the design including structure
engineering, hydraulics, survey, roadway design, geotechnical, traffic
engineering, public involvement, permits, property maps, bidding
phase and shop drawings. The design replaced a 2 span structure with
a single 115’ span curved girder bridge with semi-integral concrete
abutments supported on drilled concrete shafts founded on rock. The
bridge has significant skews, extremely sharp curvature and a low
profile necessitated by hydraulic requirements which required some
challenging and unconventional detailing in order to meet all the design
constraints. The roadway approaches were realigned and reconstructed
for approximately 385 feet in length. Project was constructed in 2012.
