Contracted by NHDOT, GM2 is providing comprehensive preliminary engineering and design engineering services for the replacement of the US Route 4 Bridge over Bunker Creek and roadway widening and reconstruction to accommodate bicycles and improve drainage and geometric deficiencies.  GM2 completed the Part A services for design of US Route 4 in Durham.  The scope of work includes alternative development, roadside design, hydraulic and hydrologic analyses of the tidal controlled Bunker Creek, Public Information Meetings and coordination, drainage design, and bridge design.  Overhead utilities will also require relocation.  A short term closure of US Route 4 (17,000 ADT) is planned with accelerated bridge construction methods to ease the impact to the users, abutters and the environmental resources. The roadway is being widened to accommodate bicycles and to improve drainage and existing roadway geometric deficiencies.  The profile will be raised to meet the required design speed and increase the sight distance to meet the AASHTO requirements.
