Position Overview:

GM2 Associates, Inc. (GM2) is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Project Manager to join our growing Transportation Practice in Connecticut. This position offers the opportunity to lead the design and delivery of complex roadway, highway, and multimodal transportation projects for CTDOT, municipalities, and other public-sector clients throughout Connecticut and the Northeast. 

The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in transportation engineering, a proven record of managing projects from planning and design through construction, and experience working with CTDOT, Connecticut Councils of Government (COGs) and municipal clients. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to take a leadership role in project delivery while helping develop client relationships and expand GM2's transportation practice. 

The ideal candidate will be comfortable leading multidisciplinary teams, managing project scope, schedule, budget, and staffing, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients. In addition to project delivery, this individual will contribute to business development by identifying client needs, supporting proposals and interviews, developing repeat work, and helping GM2 expand its transportation services throughout Connecticut and the Northeast.

The successful candidate will play an important role in mentoring staff, maintaining technical excellence, and contributing to the continued growth of GM2's Transportation Practice. 

This position works collaboratively with GM2's transportation leadership team. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Project Manager and primary client contact for roadway, highway, and multimodal transportation projects.
  • Lead projects from planning and preliminary design through final design, permitting, bidding, and construction support.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality, and client expectations.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with subconsultants, contractors, utilities, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership and QA/QC oversight for transportation engineering projects.
  • Oversee the preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, reports, permit applications, and contract documents.
  • Apply CTDOT standards, specifications, procedures, and project development requirements to transportation projects.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with CTDOT, municipalities, and other transportation agencies.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients by understanding their transportation needs and developing practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and repeat work with existing clients.
  • Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, interview development, client meetings, and pursuit strategies.
  • Work with GM2 leadership to identify and pursue new transportation opportunities throughout Connecticut and the Northeast.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineering staff.
  • Represent GM2 at client meetings, professional organizations, conferences, and industry events.
  • Monitor transportation industry trends, funding opportunities, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies.
  • Promote a collaborative, client-focused culture consistent with GM2's commitment to quality, responsiveness, accountability, and technical excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in civil engineering.
  • Connecticut Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive transportation engineering experience, including roadway and highway design.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and delivering transportation projects for the CTDOT, Connecticut Councils of Government, and/or municipal clients.
  • Thorough understanding of CTDOT project development procedures, design standards, specifications, and permitting requirements.
  • Proven project management experience, including responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and client coordination.
  • Strong client management skills with a demonstrated ability to develop, maintain, and expand long-term client relationships. 
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating with subconsultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies. 
  • Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D a plus, and other transportation engineering software. 
  • Experience preparing engineering reports, plans, specifications, estimates, and contract documents. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment. 
  • Active participation in professional organizations and industry associations is preferred.
