Client: Gondek Construction
Key Facts:
Hops on the Hill Brewery is housed in a barn that originally served as a dairy farm building before being relocated to its current site in 1950. There, it functioned as a tobacco barn for nearly 70 years. The barn's original structure featured loosely arranged stone beneath the wooden post columns for support, with a dirt floor inside.
GM2 provided structural engineering services to the contractor to design a permanent, integral cast-in-place concrete perimeter foundation wall and column pier system, along with a slab on grade. In collaboration with a geotechnical engineer, GM2 utilized SEI/ASCE 32, "Design and Construction of Frost-Protected Shallow Foundations," to minimize foundation retrofit work. Additionally, GM2 provided structural engineering for reinforcing the wood-framed superstructure to withstand lateral loads, framing new openings, adding a new entry, and constructing cantilevered overhangs.
