This $355 Million Design-Build project, the first for Louisiana, includes 12 miles of two-lane roadway approaches and eight bridges. This new bridge is the only bridge on a 90-mile stretch of the Mississippi River between the cities of Natchez and Baton Rouge. The bridge connects the towns of New Roads (Point Coupee Parish) and St. Francisville (West Feliciana Parish), which were previously served by a ferry system.

At 1,583’, it featured the longest cable-stayed bridge span in North America with towers that rise 500’ above the top of the foundations and twin planes of stays. Foundations utilized 10’ diameter tip-grouted drilled shafts up to 200’ in depth. The bridge’s cable-stayed superstructure is a composite section with precast concrete deck panels supported by a structural steel frame comprised of edge girders and floor beams.

The GM2 Complex Bridge Team was responsible for the overall quality management plan (design and construction Quality Control) independent of the Design-Build Team. This included the overall Quality Control management process, verification of design quality control, development/updates of the quality management plan, quality audits (design and construction), materials sampling and testing oversight, construction inspection and documentation.
