Client: CTDOT

Construction Cost: $300 Million

Key Facts:

  • Structural Engineering
  • Independent Peer Review
  • Analysis & Evaluation Modeling
  • Maintenance & Protection of Traffic

The existing Moses Wheeler Bridge was replaced with a new widened structure that maintained the existing six-lane highway and incorporated four full-width shoulders. GM2 provided comprehensive engineering design services for the reconstruction of Bridge No.’s 134 and 133 (I-95 over Route 1 west and east, respectively); provided a scour analysis, utilizing 2-D unsteady flow analysis, of the existing downstream Metro North Railroad Bridge (Devon) during temporary construction conditions and final conditions of the Moses Wheeler Bridge; performed an independent design review of the as-designed and as-built conditions of the Moses Wheeler Bridge; and performed construction survey services. The scope of the independent design review was to determine the cause of the transverse deflections of the superstructure that occurred during construction and to identify any consequential problems and retrofit that may be required.
