Key Facts:
The Eastern Extension (Section 32) of the PGBT connects the PGBT toll road to Interstate 30. The GM2 Complex Bridge team designed the bridge crossing over Lake Ray Hubbard for TxDOT as part of this comprehensive $180M project. This crossing features twin prestressed concrete U-girder bridge structures, supported by drilled shaft foundations, accommodating four lanes of traffic in each direction. Each bridge spans over a mile in length.
The superstructure features precast prestressed U-shaped beams, each 54” deep, topped with an 8” cast-in-place concrete slab. The typical deck width is 70’ with span lengths ranging from 104’ to 115’. The substructure consists of rectangular reinforced concrete bent caps supported by circular reinforced concrete columns and drilled shafts. The bent caps vary in size, measuring 4’ deep by 3’-3” wide at the abutments and up to 4’ deep to 4’-9” wide for the northbound ramps. The diameter of the columns and drilled shafts ranges from 18” for the abutment wing walls to 54” for the northbound ramps, with column heights varying from 16’ to 66’. Drilled shaft lengths range from 18’ to approximately 80’.
