The scope of work for this project was to perform an Independent Structural Engineering Review (ISER), for the Phase II New Athletic District Development Stadia project at the University of Connecticut’s Storrs campus. The purpose of this project is to rebuild aging athletics facilities for baseball, soccer and softball on the University’s main campus. One of the main features of this project is the construction of new playing fields including a 4,300 seat soccer stadium, 1,500 seat baseball stadium and 500 seat softball stadium. The project also includes a performance building with an estimated gross square footage of 52,000 sf containing activity spaces for strength and conditioning training facilities, batting cages, locker rooms, office suites for baseball, softball and soccer coaches and staff, laundry room, hydrotherapy suite, meeting and conference spaces.

The intent of the ISER on this project was to establish whether the building structure of the new performance building and the grandstand structures, lighting standards, scoreboard structures and retaining walls at the new athletic fields conform to the minimum structural design standards established by the Connecticut Building Code. After the review of each structure, a letter certifying that the design meets the intent of the Connecticut Building Code was submitted to the University of Connecticut.
